Build Your Niche, Support Another's, And Don't Give Up

By Rene Santana on January 14, 2020

Let’s be honest, we’re all problem solvers. Whether it’s our problems or someone else’s, we’re regularly trying to fix something and await that sweet satisfaction after solving a problem. Our niche, life’s calling, is what we individually find purpose in. Somewhere down the road, your niche and problem-solving skills have intertwined and created a beautiful weave of purpose and fulfillment.

Finding your niche takes time, confidence, and perseverance. It can happen overnight after months of searching and trying out new activities and skills. And once you find it, you have to write it down or keep track of it somewhere so that you don’t lose sight of it when you’ve worked long and hard refining it.

And you’ll need to spend time searching or honing your niche, and you may meet others doing the exact same thing. You could also share a niche with someone else. In this case, it would be pointless to give up on your niche as two people can greatly benefit from each other’s unique perspective on the same niche.

Too many times people have lost interest in their niche either because they found out others are doing the same thing and better, or they wouldn’t do the work to network with them. I personally am guilty of this. After being so excited to have found a unique niche, I come to find everyone around is also doing that same thing. Feeling unoriginal, I gave up on it and wasted time looking for something with less interest. Having done so, instead of dedicating my time to something I could have contributed to, I found niches that made it much harder to connect with others.

But where do you even start to find your niche? Well, with the magic of the internet, finding what you like to do has been made easier than ever!

Take blogging for example. This niche isn’t going anywhere, no matter how many people out there are writing their manifesto. If you have a particular voice and or skill you can explain confidently, then I assure you, someone will find your blog. People read blogs to learn how to do something. Have a car problem? There’s a blog for that. Trying to sew a dress? Also a blog for that. Need to find the right DSLR camera to vlog? Yes, there is a blog for vlogging.

No sector is oversaturated. No, not even blogging. There are, however, too many people trying to do the exact same thing without making it in their own voice. In this case, each sector has a wide-open field of possibilities, waiting for people to bring their own flavor. If you really need some extra convincing, just remember that everything is a remix of something else). Please don’t let being overtly original stop you from your dream content. Just go out and do make it happen, and don’t forget to be consistent about it!

The above tweet is an awesome example of finding your niche and adding your own take. @visualizevalue takes famous quotes and turns them into simple, minimalistic visuals to help you understand the quote from a different perspective. Another crazy cool example of this is of @ckidtech. He does tech reviews of all the newest and hottest tech products but with one twist. He lays a poppin’ beat and fire rhymes, giving you a taste of the product he’s breaking down. It’s still one of the wildest things I’ve seen come out of the tech community. Do yourself a favor and check him out at his channel, CKidTEch on Youtube.

The moral of the story is, instead of spending all your time in the world looking that special, one-of-a-kind niche, just find what you love doing, and do it your way.

All my talk is from experience, albeit having given up a few times. But as I see now more and more people becoming influencers and content creators, I’m starting to realize that it doesn’t matter if your niche is taken. There are a billion other people writing blogs and news posts, but that’s not stopping me from typing these words, and nor should it stop you from finding your calling and running after it.
