1. Hang up wall decorations

Wall decorations are a simple way to tie a room together. Even little wall decorations can make a big difference. For example, framed art pieces can add a pop of color to your place. Similarly, framing pictures of people you love will add warmth to your place. Use wall decorations to personalize your room and make it uniquely you. Clearly, if you want to tie your room together, hanging up wall decorations can definitely help!

2. Add centerpieces to your tables

Whether it’s a dining room, kitchen, living room, including a centerpiece can tie the room together. Although a centerpiece can work for any of these rooms, you should choose a centerpiece according to which room it will live in. For example, flowers would be a good centerpiece for a dining room or kitchen table. On the other hand, coffee table books or candles would make good centerpieces for a living room. Adding a centerpiece to any room of your house is an easy way to tie that room together.

3. Throw pillows

Another fun way to tie your living room (or even your bedroom) together is to add throw pillows. Throw pillows will not only make your couch look and feel comfy and cozy, but it will also give your living room a more cohesive look. You can have fun with the type of throw pillows you pick, too! Choose pillows of various sizes, shapes, and textures (yes, splurge on that fluffy pillow!) that will go with your living room or bedroom. Throw pillows can definitely tie your living room together.

4. Include some plants

Bringing some plants in can breathe new life into a room, so they can help you tie your room together. The green of the plants will make your space much more vibrant and will spice up a boring space. Just like throw pillows, you could bring a variety of plants into your place. For example, include short and tall plants, and include green plants along with multicolored plants (like white, pink, red, yellow, blue, or purple flowers). You could even throw some fake plants into the mix if you feel you won’t be good at taking care of real plants. If you want to tie your room together, considering adding a variety of plants.

5. Candles

Candles are a perfect addition to tie your room together. Even fake, battery-powered candles or scented plug-ins can produce a warmth that will make your room look cohesive and smell good. Choose a scent you like (bonus points if it matches with the season!) and let it create a fun ambiance! As always, be safe when you light candles and make sure your apartment complex or dorm allows it. Candles, even fake ones, will beautifully tie your room together.

6. Hang up pictures

One way to tie your room together and to make it more “homey” is to hang up pictures. If you live away from home, hanging up pictures of your friends and family will make you happy every time you see it. You can also decide which frames to use, or whether you want to do a collage or a bulletin board. (You could even use magnets to hang pictures on your refrigerator.) This is a project you can get creative with! Hanging up pictures will help you tie your room together.

7. Display your books

Another way to tie your room together is to display your books! Like your pictures, you can display your books in various ways. For example, you can store them on a bookshelf or on a coffee table. If you decide to go down the bookshelf route, you can get creative with how you organize your books: by size, color, subject matter, or alphabetical? When you display your books, you tie your room together.

8. Improve the lighting

If your apartment complex or dorm allows you to, you can improve the lighting to tie your room together. Better lighting can completely transform a place and brighten it up. You can improve your lighting by adding a new lamp or by replacing your light bulbs with brighter ones (although make sure the wattage on the new lightbulbs is appropriate!). You can tie your room together by improving your lighting and brightening up the space.
