Congrats to the class of 2016! We’ve slaved long and hard to earn those bachelor’s degrees, and now we need to decide where we will go next. Some people start to feel at a loss if they aren’t taking classes anymore, so who says it has to stop? You now have a fancy schmancy degree, but that doesn’t mean your learning capacity is over.

Online classes are a great way to keep your mind active and there are tons of classes you can take. This can be a great way to ease into grad school, or just a way to further your knowledge while you transition into the real world and get a real job. Here are some ideas of online classes that should make it into your shopping cart.

Language classes

One of my very dear friends that I met in a German class always says that languages are like having a super power. The more you know, the more powerful you are. Languages expand your mind, and give you the ability to embrace new cultures and add a boost to your resume. If you are already bilingual, why not go for that third language? If you sort of learned some French in high school but don’t remember anything, why not take an online French class to brush back up on it?

Nowadays, companies almost expect you to have at least one other language in your knowledge bank, so it’s never too early to get on the language wagon. I’m planning on taking some online German classes to keep up with my German, especially the writing aspect, because after two years of not taking it, I’ve noticed I’ve gotten a bit rusty. If you are in my predicament as well, taking an online language course will force you to keep up with the language that you’ve already learned, which you will be very thankful for.

It would really be a shame to lose what you worked so hard to learn. With this, practice really makes perfect. Why not dabble in a few languages and see what you like best?

Classes in your major that you didn’t have time for

Those of us who had some options when it came to filling a requirement for our majors might have just enrolled in whichever one was being offered during a particular quarter/semester, and realized later on that there was a much cooler one to fill the requirement that was offered in a different quarter/semester. We’ve all had our regrets with this, and wished so desperately that we would have had the space to fit the extra class in.

So who is to say that you can’t do this now? You have graduated, so the bulk of the stress is gone, making it the perfect time to delve into a fun major class. This will further your knowledge in your field, and might even give you insight to a certain aspect that you’d like to work in when it comes to job options. One class can change your life forever, so if you had your sights on one that you didn’t have time to do during your undergrad career, it isn’t too late.

Classes that are a total 180 from your major

You know those classes that other people are taking that just sound hella fun? Like a monsters class when the teacher dresses up like monsters from historic movies and even brings in a fog machine for effect? Why limit yourself to classes that are in your major now that you’ve graduated? There are tons of classes to sample and experiment with, so why not glance through the online catalog and see if something totally new will strike your interest?

I personally would pick either a marine bio class or an astronomy class, because they both sound interesting to me and I never had a chance to take them before. This is your chance to broaden your knowledge and get into the beginnings of what people in other majors are up to.

Classes that scream “fun”

Learning can be super fun when you can get rid of the stress that was there when you were trying to scramble for your degree. Right now is the time to even take classes just because they sound fun. Sometimes we get so bogged down with only taking classes that will further us in the major process, or taking classes that we need, that we forget learning can be fun, and should be! Sign up for an online class with some friends and all learn something new and fun together. This will be a great balance with work, since you’ll have something to look forward to.

As you can see, there are plenty of options for continuing your education after you graduate. Whether it is prepping you for your next step into graduate school or simply feeding your soul by helping you learn new things, taking advantage of classes offered online is definitely something you should be considering.
